New Mountain Hike Design

Mountain Hike: Dall SheepMountain Hike: Big Horn Ram

After many years I've finally finished a mountain sheep design. Mountain Hike wallhanging began as a design to depict the white Dall Sheep we have up here in Alaska. As I completed it I had folks down south ask for a ram, and thought "I wonder if I changed up the colors a bit if it could work as a big horn ram." I've never seen one myself in person, but looked at lots of pictures online and consulted with friends I knew from the Montana area to see if it looked right done up in browns with a white nose and tush. After their approval, I decided to include both colorways in this sheep pattern. So you get a two for one in this pattern! Laser kits available in both colorways, click here to go to the Mountain Hike page.

Hawaiian Cruise Feb/Mar 2019

Hawaiian Floral

I've signed up to teach on another World of Quilts Travel Cruise - and this time it's going to Hawaii! One of my favorite places to vacation! Holland America Cruise Line's 17 days round trip Hawaiian cruise out of San Diego, California. Thirty-six quilt classes to choose from between four instructors (myself included) on the overseas journies to and from the islands. I've designed some new tropical themed florals for the cruise (sneak peek above) already, and still working on a few new marine themed designs that will utilize my newest upcoming batiks with Hoffman California Fabrics (yep another collection coming out this coming Spring/early Summer). Click here to be directed to the cruise details on Deb Robert's World of Quilts Travel website, and please please please be sure to let her know you heard about it from me! Hope to see you next winter on a relaxing journey to the beautiful Hawaiian islands. Perfect time to get out of the cold and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin!

My Fabric, Patterns & Kits Using My Hoffman Batiks

Wildfire Weed Tablerunner

I am excited to annouce my first Signature Batik Collection with Hoffman California Fabrics! The Into the Wild fabric collection hit stores across the nation in Jan/Feb 2017. These batiks feature my drawings of fireweed, lupine, forget me not, blueberries and dragonflies/butterflies. Click here to view the entire collection.

In addition to the fabrics, I created 10 designs using these new batiks (6 tablerunners, 3 wallhangings - which can be combined into one large wallhanging, and one quilt). Please see the New Designs or Floral Designs pages to view my patterns and kits. All my patterns and laser pre-cut kits are available NOW! Click here to be directed to Wildfire Designs Alaska's online store to get yours today!

What makes WDA laser kits special? I pre-wash all the applique fabrics to shrink, block and remove excess dye and all my kits use Lite Steam-a-Seam 2 as the fusible webbing. This fusible is more expensive then other non-permanent fusibles out there, but the only one I use because of its permanent bond. When used properly there's no need to stitch down your appliques. See my Tips page for step-by-step instructions on how I use Steam-a-Seam fusible web.

Wildfire Designs Alaska Online Store

All Wildfire Designs Alaska patterns, available kits and other notions are now available to purchase online! Although I am excited open my own online store for those of you who do not have local access to my patterns and kits, I want to make sure to encourage everyone to check with your local quilt shops first and support your local small businesses! Click here to be directed to Wildfire Designs Alaska's online store now.

**ATTENTION** The first printing of the Into the Wild: First Bloom patterns had an error in the size of the applique sheet, reducing the overall size to approximately 80% of the original design. If you have purchased a reduced sized pattern with an applique sheet measuring 24" x 19.625" please click here for instructions for cutting the background and borders to make the individual wallhanging. If you have one of these reduced sized patterns and plan to make the Into the Wild: 3-Block Wallhanging please contact me for your copy of the original (100% sized) applique sheet so it will properly fit with the other two Into the Wild patterns.

History of Wildfire Designs Alaska

I was born in Kenai, Alaska and raised in the family fabric store, the Kenai Fabric Center with my mother, grandparents, aunts, and later a sister and several cousins; all of whom taught me to sew, crochet, knit, and so much more. While in college I worked with my family at their fabric store, where I found a talent for creating samples of wallhangings and preparing kits. After several years I decided to try designing on my own. My first pattern, Caribou on the Kenai Flats, was inspired by my hometown.
