We have caribou in the Kenai area, but nothing compared to the numbers in herds that roam in interior Alaska. I can go years without seeing a caribou sometimes. Then last year over the course of about 3 weeks I swear I saw a caribou almost every day, including two that hung out in my yard. I think they may have been off their usual route because I haven't seen them around since, which is a bummer because it was so cool to get to see them up close so frequently.
