Return to the Wild: Black Bear uses batiks from my 2021 Return to the Wild Signature Batik Collection with Hoffman California Fabrics. This pattern can be made as an individual pattern as shown above, or combined with the other five Return to the Wild patterns to make the various other combination quilts as shown below. I came around a bend in the road when I was driving through the Kenai Mountains many years ago, and there in the middle of the street was a black bear. It was startled, as I was too, and quickly ran to the side of the road and into the trees. I passed by slowly and saw him hiding behind a birch tree peeking at me. Ever since I've always thought of making that interaction into a design. Finally got it out of my head and into fabric!
